The staff and the doctors are outstanding. If you care about your pet you will bring him or her to Blackford. I shopped all over the area and everyone told me that this was the place to go. I absolutely agree! Everything from the receptionist to the doctors are top-notch. Thank you for giving me my dogs health and activeness back! I cannot say enough about this place being the best! If you are in the position like I was and looking for reviews for a surgeon because your dog needs knee surgery then look no further than Blackford Surgery Center.... read more A year ago, Dr. Hodshon did a TPLO, lateral suture, and patellar groove on my dog’s knee. Unfortunately, almost a year to the day, he tore the ligament in his other knee. This time I decided to go to UT because I wanted him to spend the night (the first 48 hrs after surgery is pretty rough…at least it was for me). Big mistake! I have heard many good things about UT, and I have no doubt they have earned that reputation but not for me and my dog. I will skip all the details but Koda had his surgery at UT and shortly after his surgery his knee was unstable. I took him back to Dr. Hodshon for a second opinion and she confirmed Koda would need another surgery on his knee. We are now three months post surgery and Koda is walking and has been released. He still has a way to go before he is “normal” again but his knee is stable once again. Everyone at Blackford has been so helpful, patient and kind. We dealt with Brooke mostly and she was awesome! She listened to our concerns about Koda’s anesthesia and did a perfect job for his surgery. She answered my questions quickly and was patient with all my questions and concerns. The front office staff is also very friendly and helpful (something we did not experience at UT). I will always recommend Blackford when it comes to orthopedic surgeries and will always be grateful to them for getting Koda back on his feet.

I called more than 20... read more vets in and around atlanta and only found 4 that were board certified. 2 of those 4 did not do the surgery recommended for her, the other two were backlogged an additional 2 months AND would easily cost me 2x-2.5x the amt of Blackford! My dog has already started putting her foot down just 2 days later, they hope to have that progress within 2 weeks. Then they called to ck on us 5 days after surgery. This place will be in my contacts list for as long as I have dogs.

I took my dog Marlin to Blackford for a consult on his luxating patella and every part of our experience was ideal. I cannot say enough good things about everyone... read more that works there. They came out to get him very quickly and were so sweet to him. Dr. Blackford came out after the exam and spent 15 minutes explaining our options. She actually recommended waiting on surgery which I think shows that the vets here aren't just trying to schedule the most surgeries and make the most money. I know I can completely trust them to do what is best for Marlin and can call them when he needs help in the future!

Blackford was completely available to discuss and transparent about their practices and what... read more essentially to expect, which made me feel a bit more comfortable. Actually going into the practice for the day surgery my dog needed, it became quickly apparent that the same vibe was present in person as well. There is a kind of calm in their office. The two people at their front desk seemed to be very patient and friendly; in a sincere way, seemingly more of their respective beings than any conscious notion of customer service. All of it really just helped lighten the weight of the day; of the moment. Dr. Hodshon took care of my dog and the service was first class and first rate. As patient as the front desk, taking all the necessary time to answer every question, but also I found Dr. Hodshon to seem genuinely compassionate toward my dog. They felt more like a casual acquaintance than someone just trying to get through the work day. I got the sense that they enjoyed their work and knew it well; as though it were second nature to them. My dog also required a little bit of extra at home maintenance after surgery and Dr. Hodshon was in regular reciprocal contact at every step of the way until the regimen could be relaxed. Just more evidence of their conviction and care. One final thing of note: my dog's regular vet tried to sell me on the idea that I should have them do a chest xray on my dog prior to surgery, telling me that Blackford would surely require it and it would be much more expensive with them. Well Blackford was very up front with their prices on the phone and their cost for the xray was about half of what my vet tried to charge me. Furthermore, Blackford realized I didnt even need that xray and so didnt try to sell me on it. In other words they were honest and non aggressive. (And I got the xray anyway because my dog had never had one before and obviously it was going to be cheaper with Blackford then and there than with my regular vet later.) Anyway, I feel my experience there was comfortable and genuine and we are fortunate to have this practice, as well as Dr. Hodshon, in our city.

The break down they provide before and after surgery left me without any questions. They even broke down medication side effects and how to perform the daily PT for our pup. They send all post op instructions via email before pick up so you have time to gather your questions for pick up, they also give you a hard copy upon. The care they show for your animal is simply amazing. In the future (hopefully not) if we ever need surgery again, we will ask for another referral for them. The entire staff is friendly and caring for you and your pet!

Blackford Vet has done two ACL surgeries on our pups over the years and they were fantastic. I wouldn’t go anywhere else in Knoxville. Highly recommend!
