Dr. Callie Blackford-Winders, DVM, DACVS-SA graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine in 2016 as the class valedictorian. She completed her Small Animal Medicine and Surgery Internship at the University of Georgia in 2017. Dr. Callie Blackford completed her Small Animal Surgery Residency at the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine in 2020 and accomplished her ACVS board certification. During her residency, Dr. Callie Blackford won several awards including the First Place Outstanding Surgical Resident Award from the ACVS for two consecutive years, the Best Bloomberg Presentation from the Veterinary Orthopedic Society, and the Veterinary Arthrology Advancement Association resident research award. Dr. Callie Blackford’s research included a new surgical approach to hip surgery, as well as a new useful device to help with medial patella luxation surgery. Dr. Callie Blackford specializes in orthopedic surgery, as well as arthroscopic and laparoscopic surgery. Dr. Blackford also serves as a paid consultant for Arthrex, Inc., and Arthrex flies her around the United States and internationally to teach arthroscopy courses. Dr. Callie Blackford purchased the clinic from her mother, Dr. LeeAnn Blackford in 2021, and is proud to continue her mother’s legacy.
Outside of work, Dr. Callie Blackford loves to spend time with her husband, Zane, and their sweet daughter. She is a member of Maryville Vineyard Church, and is passionate about her faith. She likes to ride horses for leisure, as well as compete in eventing. She loves to spend time working in her garden and cheering on the Tennessee Vols! Her animal family consists of one Miniature American Shepherd, one Terrier Mix, and one cat.
Dr. Rebecca Hodshon, DVM, DACVS-SA graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine in 2008. She completed her Small Animal Medicine and Surgery Internship at Affiliated Veterinary Specialists in Maitland, Florida in 2009. Dr. Hodshon completed her three-year Small Animal Residency at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine in 2013 and accomplished her ACVS board certification. Throughout her residency, Dr. Hodshon received numerous awards including, but not limited to, the CEMPH research Symposium Resident Award of Excellence (2012), the Pfizer Animal Health Veterinary Specialty Team Award for Excellence in Internal Medicine (2008), as well as multiple teaching awards. Dr. Hodshon specializes in orthopedic surgery, soft tissue surgery, and fracture repairs.
In her spare time, Dr. Hodshon can be found camping and hiking all over the United States. Her and her husband, Chris, love to travel and are avid scuba divers. Dr. Hodshon is a talented gardener, and she also enjoys exercising, paddle boarding, and spending time with her friends and family. Her animal family consists of one Miniature Dachshund, two Spinone Italiano, and a small flock of chickens.
Dr. LeeAnn Blackford, DVM, DACVS graduated from Texas A & M University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1981. After four years in general practice, Dr. Blackford completed a three-year residency program in Small Animal Surgery at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine. In 1997, Dr. Blackford accomplished her ACVS board certification, and opened Blackford Veterinary Surgery Referral. While she specializes in orthopedic surgeries, Dr. Blackford has a wealth of knowledge on canine sports injuries, as well as soft tissue surgery.
In her spare time, Dr. Blackford can be found taking care of her grandchildren, riding her horses, or working on her farm. She loves to garden, spend time with her husband, Jim, and watch her daughter event with their horses. Her animal family consists of two Welsh Terriers, one Belgian Malinois, multiple horses, and barn cats.
Zane is our Director of Operations, and Dr. Callie’s husband. Zane graduated from Maryville College in 2013, and he graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 2016. Zane left the full-time practice of law in 2023 to assume an active role as Director of Operations at Blackford Veterinary Surgery Referral. Zane has been an integrated member of our practice since marrying Dr. Callie Blackford in 2014. His duties range from from hanging shelves and mowing the clinic’s property to Human Resources and bookkeeping.
Outside of work, Zane enjoys spending time with Dr. Callie and their daughter, boating on the lake, and coaching the Maryville pee-wee football team with his Dad. The Winders family are members at Maryville Vineyard Church, and Zane serves as a member of the Financial Board.
Brooke joined our team in August of 2016. Brooke is our Practice Manager, and she is also a member of our medical staff. She has been in the veterinary industry since 2011, and she can be seen applying all her on-the-job training to any situation that arises. She has a strong passion for animals and helping clients understand how to help their animals, making client and staff communication one of her greatest strengths. When Brooke isn’t at the clinic, she can be found doing dock diving and nose work with her dogs, working out, hiking, spending time with her husband, and spending time with friends and family. Her animal family consists of two Australian Shepherds, one Border Collie, one Border Collie/Papillon Mix, one Chocolate Labrador, and one cat.
Leann has been a member of our team since February of 2017. Leann’s love and dedication to veterinary medicine began in 2002 when she first got into the industry. She is a very important member of our medical staff, and we are grateful for all her hard work and diligent patient care. Her favorite patients are the small Chihuahuas, Pomeranians, and Pugs. She loves them even more if they’re a little grumpy or have a sassy attitude. There isn’t a tiny dog that walks into clinic that she doesn’t adore! Leann enjoys working out, spending time with her two children and husband, and she loves spending time with her friends and family. Her animal family includes two Chihuahuas, two Pugs, one Labrador Retriever Mix, 1 Cattle Dog Mix, and 1 Pomeranian. She also has two cats.
Alexis has been a member of our team since March of 2022. Alexis loves all animals, and she is a pure ray of sunshine throughout the clinic. Alexis’ career in the veterinary industry kicked off with our hospital in 2022, and we are thrilled we found her. Her attention to detail, love for learning, and meticulous cleaning skills made her the perfect addition to our surgical instrument sterilization team. Alexis enjoys being organized, cleaning, drawing, spending time with her husband, and reading. Her animal family includes one Pekingese Mix and an Australian Shepherd/Husky Mix.
Allie is a licensed veterinary medical technician that has been a member of our team since August of 2022. She has been in the veterinary industry since 2015, and her experiences make her a huge asset to our medical staff. She is passionate about our patients, and she loves learning anything she can to continually improve our patient care. When Allie isn’t at work, she can be found hiking with her husband and daughter, raising reptiles, or enjoying time with friends and family. Her animal family consists of two Great Danes and a variety of reptiles.
Ashley joined our team as part of the medical staff in August of 2020. She has been in the veterinary industry since 2005, and she has a natural draw to the working breeds dogs. Ashley’s favorite patients are the ones that have a job or sport they love. She enjoys being able to participate in helping them return to their sport, or back to their active lifestyle as it was prior to needing our services. Ashley rode horses, showed guinea pigs, and participated in agility and confirmation with her dogs growing up. When Ashley isn’t at the clinic, she enjoys stand up paddle boarding, spending time with her husband, hiking with her dogs, snuggling with her furry children, and spending time with friends and family. Ashley’s animal family consists of one Border Collie, one Australian Shepherd, one French Brittany Spaniel, two cats, and a rabbit.
Emily joined our team in January of 2022 as a scheduling coordinator. Emily is calm, patient, and incredibly empathetic with all our clients and patients. Emily has been in the industry since 2014, and she specializes in client care. She works very hard to prioritizing the schedule, being sure that every clients’ needs are being met. When Emily isn’t at work, she can be found exploring the woods in her Jeep, spending time with her husband, enjoying her cat’s company, or attending a country concert. Her animal family consists of one cat.
Renee obtained her veterinary technician certification from Bel-Rea Institute of Animal Technology in Colorado in 1998. She works specifically with Dr. Bogue and has been with her since 2011. Renee has always had a love of animals, and her well rounded background of ICU, and both small and large animal experience makes her Dr. Bogue’s right-hand lady! In her spare time, Renee likes to go hiking, spend time with her two children and family, go foraging for mushrooms, and spend time with friends. Her animal family consists of one Pit Bull Mix and one cat.
Erin is a licensed veterinary medical technician that joined our team in June of 2018. Erin started her career in veterinary medicine in 2002, and she hasn’t looked back since! Her love of orthopedic surgery, anesthesia, and animal rehabilitation has made her a very well-rounded member of our medical staff. Erin is the head of our rehabilitation program, and she takes great pride in helping animals regain their strength. Erin is a wealth of knowledge, and she is always eager to teach anyone willing to learn. In her spare time, Erin loves to remodel furniture, interior decorate, spend time with her husband and four children, and do anything outdoors. Erin’s animal family consists of a small flock of chickens, one Pit Bull Mix, two Golden Retrievers, two cats, and one Potbelly Pig.
Katy is a licensed veterinary medical technician that jointed our team in August of 2021. Katy began her journey in veterinary medicine in 2015, and she couldn’t imagine herself working in any other field. Katy is quick to learn new skills and tasks, and she is an incredible problem solver. She is quick thinking and eager to help every team member and patient that walks through our doors. When Katy isn’t at work, she can be found spending time with her two children and husband, cheering on the Iowa State Cyclones, working out, touring a good brewery, reading, and spending time with her friends and family. Her animal family consists of one Miniature Dachshund Mix, and one Mastiff Mix.
Kelsey joined out team in June of 2021. She started as one of our scheduling coordinators, but her animal handling skills and knowledge of sterile technique quickly earned her a spot assisting our medical staff. Kelsey started in the veterinary industry in 2018 and quickly grew her knowledge base with on-the-job training. Kelsey is our surgical scrub assistant, and she is imperative to helping our patients move smoothly into and out of the operating room. When Kelsey isn’t at the clinic, she can be found racing four wheelers and dirt bikes with her husband, spending time with friends and family, helping a stray or found dog, and traveling to spend time at the beach.
Leisha joined out team in September of 2022, and she hit the ground running! Having been in the veterinary industry since 2009, Leisha is well versed in patient care and veterinary medical knowledge. Her attention to detail and record keeping makes her ideal as one of our scheduling coordinators! You can always find her in a good mood and happily chatting with clients to put them at ease while their animal is in our care. In her spare time, Leisha enjoys spending time with husband and two children, tending to her many plants, hiking, watching movies, and spending time with her doggies. Her animal family consists of one Boxer/Plot Hound Mix, one Doberman, and three cats.
Lexi joined our team as a part of the medical staff in October of 2022. Lexi is incredibly smart and a fast learner. She is so caring about every patient that comes into our clinic. She loves our husky patients the most and can’t narrow down her favorite breed besides them! Lexi has been in the veterinary industry since 2017, and she is currently attending technician school to become a licensed veterinary medical technician! In her spare time, Lexi enjoys attending country music concerts, country line dancing, spending time with friends and family, and volunteering at Horse Haven. Lexi’s animal family consists of two Siberian Huskies, one Shetland Sheepdog Mix, and one Shih Tzu Mix.
Raquel is a licensed veterinary medical technician that joined our team in January of 2017. Raquel is spunky and energetic, she and treats all our patients as if they were her own. She has been in the veterinary industry since 2003, and her experience shows through with her veterinary knowledge. Raquel has the memory of an elephant, and we are so thankful she’s a part of our medical staff. When Raquel isn’t at work, you can find her volunteering at the Knoxville Zoo, spending time with her daughter and husband, going for a run or working out, spending time with friends and family, baking delicious treats, or reading a good book! Her animal family consists of one Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, one Hound Mix, and two cats.
Rebecca joined our team in September of 2020. Rebecca has been in the veterinary industry since 2014 working in all areas of animal hospitals. Her experience with animal handling and veterinary knowledge, accompanied with her on-the-job training, has helped her grow into a tremendous veterinary assistant. Rebecca is a member of our medical staff team, and she is also one of our primary surgical scrub assistants. In her spare time, Rebecca likes to explore new local restaurants and breweries, travel with friends and family, and she enjoys hiking. Her animal family consists of one Australian Shepherd and three cats.
Sarah joined our team in November of 2021. Sarah started in the veterinary industry in 2018 as a receptionist, and soon discovered how much she loved being around the surgical aspects of veterinary medicine. Her intricate attention to detail, superior organization skills, and knowledge of sterile processing makes her perfect as the head of our surgical instrument sterilization team. Sarah, and all of her hard work behind the scenes, makes it possible for our medical staff and surgeons to accomplish at least six surgical procedures per day. In Sarah’s spare time, she enjoys spending time with her son and husband, traveling with her family, watching movies, and spending time with her fluffy pup! Sarah’s animal family consists of one Husky/Pyrenees Mix and two cats.
