After graduating from veterinary school, ACVS Veterinary Surgeons must complete a one-year internship before being accepted into a 3-year residency program. This residency program requires specific training and surgical instruction under the supervision of ACVS Veterinary Surgeons. Once the candidate has completed this training and published an article in a scientific journal, he or she must submit a credentials application. If the credentials are accepted, the candidate must pass the rigorous ACVS certifying examination that tests all aspects of small animal surgery. There are only 1,200 ACVS surgeons in the nation. |
